Post script to BBSP...

A few last things to share ~

One - if you want to see images and experiences from our 2010 visit to Brazos:

Two - a collection of BBSP images I came across from the web...  Hopefully it's OK to post these without specifically crediting each photographer?!  Some of them are funny, some are just great shots:
It's not just the gators that end up green!

A baby gallinule - looks nothing like the adult bird!  Like a baby on stilts!  Too funny!!

Gator eating a fish (wish I could get a photo like that!).

Not so sure I want to get a photo like this...!  Hope the photographer was using a long lens!

I love this shot (very small file size so a little fuzzy-looking)!  Looks like the photographer (understandably!) up and ran!

And then there's this big guy.  I'm not sure I'd have the guts to even bike by like that!  Even knowing how the gators would really prefer not to confront.

And then there's this dude, who's not only OK biking by but is OK with standing pretty darn close to get the shot.  You think that guy doesn't know you're right there?!!!  Ha-ha!  He may choose to not do anything about it, but that seems like pressing your luck to me.  Put it this way, whether it violates the gator's comfort zone or not, it would violate mine!!  (and it also violates the park's guidelines - you are supposed to stay 30 feet away from them.  As their literature says:  "It is safe say that for the first 30 feet or so that they could out run or out swim the fastest human. Remember, if you get in a race with an alligator, the alligator is the one that says “GO”."   For more great factoids about gators, esp. at BBSP, go here:  http://www.brazosbend.org/florafauna/alligatorfacts.pdf

And this incredible shot!  Gator babies are the cutest (well, wait, baby mooses are awfully cute, and so are baby tapirs, and...).  For more great gator photos check out this guy's blog:  http://timtimmisblog.com/category/alligator/

And this photo has been used for postcards the park sells.  I wonder why...  Too cute!!!!!

I would be at this park so often if we lived nearby!!  What an amazing place, esp. for sighting gators!

  1. You really need to reserve some time at Paynes Prairie Preserve while in Florida. When there go to La Chua Trail. Big gators.
