Las Cruces

After three nights in Tucson, we hit the road again.  Eager to see more but sorry to say good-bye to Soozie and Gary, great people we met last summer while in Colorado.  They are full-timers also and not only were still in Tucson when we got there, but serendipitously, we ended up in the very same RV park (out of the 29 or more possible!)!
Because our main destinations are farther east, Las Cruces was just a one-night stopover, just to split up the driving distance... Not too far from Tucson, we passed through a cool rock area in the Texas Canyon called the Dragoon Mountains (maybe that reddish part is where the "dragoon's" breath torched it?!).  Reminds me of the rocky hills east of Campo on I-8 in the southeastern part of San Diego.

The reason I picked the Las Cruces KOA was because we stayed there the other time, and I knew they had an excellent viewpoint for shooting the ruggedly gorgeous Organ Mountains.  Unfortunately, the weather had plans other than enabling photographers, and the clouds closed in and shut me down (but you can go here to see the photos from last time:  http://carriebartonphotos.blogspot.com/2010/03/moods-of-mountains.html) .

The clouds were gone in the morning, the KOA had a dog park, and the neighbor dogs were most excellent company, so...let the games begin!

Zou and studly Cody (seriously, he and his owners were waiting on a phone call to go up north, so he could meet the bitch of his dreams and make puppies!  Yeah:  sit, stay, breed!).  Good-looking guy, great personality - no doubt a great choice for a daddy donor dog!

And Zou really let loose with 5-month-old collie, Walker.  Maybe because Walker reminded her of one of her best pals, Lexie (a sheltie).  Or maybe just because Walker was such a sweet, playful dog!

Notice all the wet, spittiness around Zou's cheeks?  Means a good time is being had by all!

They were such good friends - in only 15 min. or so - it was hard to say good-bye!!  But we all had to move on - Walker's folks heading back to San Diego from Florida, and us heading to Florida from San Diego!
