I love the saguaro, so yesterday I decided it was time to get out the serious camera and go shoot me some cacti!
As I recall, I'd only been to the western SNP, so this time I went to the eastern SNP first. Granted it was mid-day and bad lighting, but I only ended up with this one shot I sort of liked. After I read the park newsletter, I realized why. The reason there IS a western SNP is because they wanted more saguaro than the eastern property provided, and that western piece was loaded with them! Still is! But I did like the look of the saguaro against the "Javelina Rocks."
But all these other images are from the western SNP, late afternoon.
The sun is setting, and the hills are throwing their weight around, leaving huge sections in shadow already (much to my dismay - I wasn't ready for that and not ideally located!). These little clouds along the eastern horizon were the only ones around, so not the best conditions either.
The last of the light sets it all on fire...
Post sun-set. The desert does do twilight right, with beautiful pastel shades.
Pastels are almost gone now. It was actually a bit darker than I made this image (but I wanted you to be able to see it ;)
And darkness settles in on the desert...
Ooooh. Nice cacti shots.
